A Sapper is a highly trained Military Engineer, otherwise known as a Combat Engineer, specialising in tasks such as fortifications, demolitions, bridging, mine clearance & construction.
Soldiers first and foremost, they play a vital role in combat and humanitarian operations, enabling the Army to live, move & fight. A military survival instructor is a uniquely qualified specialist, trained to survive in the temperate, arctic, desert, jungle and urban environment.
Anyone with an interest in bushcraft, survival, and learning new skills that can be applied to everyday life. Most of our packages are designed to be family friendly with some age restrictions applied due to the tools, equipment, and at times, subject matter of the course. Please refer to each course for the minimum age restrictions.
We work in various locations around the UK, depending on course criteria, structure, and demand. You can find the location of each course via the courses section of the website.
Courses vary in length, ranging from one day experiences, two day courses, to longer expeditions (coming soon).
Courses are typically scaled for 8 - 14 people (course dependent) including any participating adults who are accompanying a participating minor.
Larger groups will be advertised on a course by course basis, and may change according to the venue or course content being delivered.
No, in fact we prefer you not to. All tools and equipment will be provided for your course.
Please do not bring personal knives, axes and saws, unless prior consent has been requested and given in writing. In the event personal equipment is permitted, please note that it will be subject to inspection and approval by Directing Staff.
If your equipment is not approved, you ARE NOT permitted to use it at any time during the course or on the premises.
Please bring seasonally appropriate warm and waterproof clothing, and suitable footwear for the outdoor environment, such as walking boots, wellies, or robust worn trainers. Strictly NO open toed footwear.
Refreshments are limited on site to tea and coffee. NO FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED. Please bring your own flask, at least one litre of water, a packed lunch, and sufficient snacks to sustain you for the whole day. Soldiers love Haribo, just saying ;)
Here at Sapper Survival School, WE are in the military. But don’t worry, we do not expect YOU to be! Training will be delivered in a relaxed, respectful and professional manner. However, please arrive with a sense of humour and do expect some robust re-education in the event you exercise dangerous practice that places yourself or others at risk. However, we do not envisage this will be required as we have gone to great lengths to make sure all practices are safe and enjoyable.
Overnight packages and expeditions coming soon!
